Q:Which planet has the most number of moons before the space age?
A:Saturn. In 1655,Christiaan Huygens discovered the first and largest moon,Titan.Giovanni Cassini discovered Iapetus in 1671,Rhea in 1672,Dione and Tethys in 1684.Uranus-discoverer William Herschel discovered Mimas and Enceladus in 1789.In 1848,William Lassell discovered Hyperion. Then in 1899,William Pickering discovered Phoebe. And in 1966,Audouin Dollfus discovered Janus, but at that time it was thought that Janus was the only moon.So it took years later until it was found out that there was a 2nd body, which Richard Walker did discovered,Epimetheus. In total,9 Saturnian moons were known before the space age.(Excluding Janus and Epimetheus, which spacecrafts did not discover.)
